The Bandung Conference of the North continues in the spirit of Bandung 1955, the first intercontinental conference of non-white peoples in human history. In the context of the Cold War, when the world was polarized between the Soviet and Western blocs, a group of newly sovereign states of the "South" organized themselves politically to accelerate the process of independence for those states still under colonial rule. It was in the small town of Bandung, on the Indonesian island of Java, that this first international conference was held from April 18 to 24, 1955.
This conference brought together some 2,000 delegates from twenty-nine African and Asian nations, with the aim of accelerating the independence of these countries and reflecting on issues of common interest in order to launch a new departure in world history towards the emancipation of their peoples; this later gave rise to the non-aligned movement.
Our 2024 conference, organized entirely by non-white people, will mark a first in North America, and will address issues affecting their shared realities in the global North, as well as reflecting on a project for a Decolonial International that would seal a political alliance between decolonial movements in the West. The aim will be to forge projects and tools for struggle and resistance in the face, on the one hand, of the rise of supremacist nationalisms and ultra-liberalism and, on the other, of the continuation of imperialist domination in all its forms.
The Conference was initially launched in 2018 in Paris with the participation of influential figures such as Angela Davis, Fred Hampton Jr. and Ramón Grosfoguel. This first meeting was an essential starting point for discussions around a decolonial international. Subsequently, a second conference was held in Brussels in 2022 and Barcelona in 2023.
The Bandung du Nord 2024 Conference, entitled "For a Decolonial International, the Subalterns of the North Speak", is an international political event inspired by the spirit of Bandung 1955, and will mark a first in North America.
The event will address issues affecting the realities of non-white people in the global North, and will reflect on a project for a Decolonial International that would seal a political alliance between decolonial movements in the West.

La Conférence de Bandung du Nord s'inscrit dans la continuité de l'esprit de Bandung de 1955, la première conférence intercontinentale réunissant des peuples non blancs dans l’histoire de l’humanité. À l'époque de la guerre froide, alors que le monde était polarisé entre les blocs soviétique et occidental, un groupe d'États du « Sud » nouvellement souverains s’est organisé politiquement pour accélérer le processus d'indépendance des États encore sous domination coloniale. C'est à la modeste ville de Bandung, sur l'île indonésienne de Java, que cette première conférence internationale s'est tenue du 18 au 24 avril 1955.
Cette conférence a rassemblé environ 2000 délégués de vingt-neuf nations d'Afrique et d'Asie dans le but d'accélérer l'indépendance de ces pays et réfléchir sur des questions d’intérêt commun afin d’amorcer un nouveau départ dans l’histoire du monde vers l’émancipation de leurs peuples, ce qui a ensuite donné naissance au mouvement des non-alignés.
Notre conférence 2024, entièrement organisée par des personnes non-blanches, marquera une première en Amérique du Nord et elle va aborder des questions touchant leurs réalités qu’elles ont en commun dans le nord global, ainsi que réfléchir à un projet d'une Internationale Décoloniale qui scellerait une alliance politique entre les mouvements décoloniaux d'Occident. Il s'agira de forger des projets et des outils de lutte et de résistance face, d'une part, à la montée des nationalismes suprémacistes et de l'ultra libéralisme et, d'autre part, à la poursuite de la domination impérialiste sous toutes ses formes.
La Conférence a été initialement lancée en 2018 à Paris avec la participation de personnalités influentes telles qu'Angela Davis, Fred Hampton Jr. et Ramón Grosfoguel. Cette première édition a été un point de départ essentiel pour les discussions autour d’une internationale décoloniale. Par la suite, une deuxième Conférence a eu lieu à Bruxelles en 2022 et Barcelone en 2023.
La Conférence Bandung du Nord 2024 s’intitule "Pour une Internationale décoloniale, les subalternes du Nord parlent!", est un événement politique international qui s'inspire de l'esprit de Bandung de 1955 qui marquera une première en Amérique du Nord .
Cet événement va aborder des questions touchant les réalités des personnes non blanches dans le nord global, ainsi que réfléchir à un projet d'une Internationale Décoloniale qui scellerait une alliance politique entre les mouvements décoloniaux d'Occident.
